Anne Beech

Managing Director, Pluto Press

Anne Beech has worked in publishing since the mid 1970s, beginning at a science publisher, Gordon Breach, as a humble production assistant, then moving to Allen Lane/Penguin Press, where, despite Penguin‘s best efforts, she eventually acquired a taste for indie publishing in preference to corporate.

For the last 30 years, she has remained stubbornly in situ at Pluto Press, for the last several years as Managing Director, helping to reboot a company that nearly imploded in the 1980s and has now morphed into a successful progressive publisher of some 60 front list titles a year, perched midway between scholarly and activist, and with a backlist featuring, amongst others, Noam Chomsky, Franz Fanon, Bell Hooks, Edward Said et al.
